Description
Indications for Use:
Primarily used for the relief of intense pain, dihydrocodeine may also be combined with other medications, such as aspirin, to address additional symptoms like inflammation, fever, or cough. Its opioid component targets specific areas of the brain and nervous system to provide both analgesia and sedation.
Mechanism of Action:
Dihydrocodeine works by interfering with the transmission of pain signals in the central nervous system. As a chemically modified derivative of codeine and morphine, it binds to µ-opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, altering the brain’s perception and emotional response to pain. Alongside its pain-relieving effects, dihydrocodeine may also reduce anxiety associated with chronic pain, contributing to an improved sense of wellbeing.
